Thank you for your interest in the Senator Ben Cardin Jewish Scholars Program. We are now entering the second year of this highly-competitive program. Qualifying applicants will participate in a series of one-on-one text-based study sessions, drawing on classic Jewish sources as well as contemporary Jewish reflections. This will be followed by a short speech on a related topic, from key players in a variety of fields to whom Judaism is a central part of their identity. Participants will gain insight into the multi-faceted approach classical Judaism has to key issues, and discover how even in 21st century America, Judaism remains ever-relevant, both inside the study hall and in the world beyond.
The program will run on Wednesday evenings, at the JCC of Greater Washington, from April 10th to June 5th. Participants are expected to commit to attending a minimum of 7 out of the 8 sessions, as well as a lobbying mission to Washington DC to take place April 22-23rd. Those who meet this criteria will receive a certificate of completion, as well as a stipend at the closing ceremony. Alternatively, and for the first time, participants will have the option to spend a summer in Israel on an unforgettable 4-week experience with NCSY’s The Jerusalem Journey, for the incredible price of just $1499* including airfare. (See here for more details about this incredible trip which usually costs an already highly-subsidized $3199.)
* Limited availability; contingent upon eligibility and acceptance for the Israel Quest scholarship.
